Please read this section carefully. It is best to do this from a web browser equipped with a large screen and keyboard. There are multiple steps for you complete.
- Visit NBC site: www.nationalbikechallenge.org
- Create a Strava Account by clicking "Join the Challenge"
- Link Strava Account to NBC by accepting terms, conditions.
- Verify Strava has correct location information: see instructions here.
- Join Strava Clubs as instructed by employer or local advocacy groups: see instructions here.
If you do not have a Strava Account, you will be taken to Strava to register for an account. You do not need a premium account to participate in the National Bike Challenge. It is suggested you create a free account to start (which can always be upgraded in the future). You will be asked to provide a first name, last name, email address, and a password. Strava will send an email to the address you just provided to confirm it as valid. Strava will begin an onboarding process which you can skip (finding Facebook friends, gender, sport preferences, and offer a free 30 day premium trial).
Click on the grayed out circle in the upper left corner of the screen and go to "Settings". This brings up "My Profile" where you can add a picture(optional), birthday(optional), and weight(optional). Strava has guessed at your location. This is REALLY IMPORTANT that you update your location formatted in the following way: "FullCityName, FullStateName Country". Examples:
Woodbury, Minnesota United States
Birchwood, Wisconsin United States
South Holland, Illinois United States
On the left column of this screen are other options including "Display Preferences", "Privacy", and "Email Notifications". Under "Display Preferences", you can select miles or kilometers as your preferred unit. The NBC converts to miles for all calculations. Under "Privacy", read about the various options. In order to have your rides count in the National Bike Challenge, they must not be marked as "Private Activities". Under "Email Notifications", select the kind of communications you want to receive. All of these options can be modified in the future by visiting these sections.
You will be asked to confirm that you want to share your Strava activities with the National Bike Challenge, and brought back to the NBC web site.
If you do have a Strava Account, you will be taken to Strava to link your Strava account to the NBC.
